War Approaching

Today we see even more war related rhetoric - just as we would expect as we are just upon the threshold of war in the Middle East: At this point the question isn't "if" but "when". "When" appears to be soon.

The USS Abraham Lincoln warship has remained stationed in the Strait of Hormuz despite an Iranian threat that no more aircraft carriers should transit the sensitive oil choke point as tensions in the Persian Gulf continue to simmer with Washington warning Tehran it will join an Israeli attack if Iran dares to fight back in any way.

Stratfor’s latest naval update map shows that the USS Lincoln has not moved from its position having transited the Strait almost two weeks ago. Similarly, the USS Carl Vinson has also remained in its position, suggesting US Naval officials are satisfied with the strategic position of the two warships as Israel prepares to launch an attack on Iran in which the US could quickly become embroiled.

The US will only become overtly involved if “Iran hits U.S. assets” or if “Israel’s population centers were hit”.

In other words, if Iran attempts to fight back in any way, which is all but inevitable, the US will join the attack. The Obama administration will then think itself justified in telling the American people that the US acted in self-defense, when in reality such a series of coordinated events is absurdly obvious.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for a new world order of justice-seeking nations, to replace the existing Western-dominated liberal status quo.

President Ahmadinejad made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the 2nd International Conference on Hollywoodism and Cinema in Tehran on Thursday.

Speaking at Herzliya Conference, Moshe Ya’alon calls the possibility of a nuclear Iran a 'nightmare to the free world,' says explosion at Iranian missile base targeted missile system that would have threatened the U.S.

All of Iran's nuclear faculties are vulnerable to a military strike, Vice Prime Minister and Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya’alon said on Thursday, calling the potential of a nuclear Iran a "nightmare to the free world."

"The Iranian threat is not a case of Iran Vs. Israel. Israel has never declared war on Iran, but the Khomeinistic regime has declared total war on the States of Israel's very existence," Ya'alon added, saying that Iran was interested in repelling a perceived western hegemony around the world and not just in the Middle East.

Islamic Republic will not yield to international pressure to abandon its nuclear course, says Iran's Supreme Leader; Khamenei threatens retaliation for sanction aimed at Iranian oil exports.

"Threatening Iran and attacking Iran will harm America ... Sanctions will not have any impact on our determination to continue our nuclear course ... In response to threats of oil embargo and war, we have our own threats to impose at the right time," Khamenei told worshipers in a speech broadcast live on state television.

Khamenei added that any US military strike against Iran would backfire and that the "painful and crippling" Western sanctions would only increase the resilience of Iran.

His comments came a day after Israel’s top political and military leadership issued a series of warnings to the Islamic Republic in some of the most candid comments on the nuclear threat in years.

Iran is working to obtain a nuclear weapon, a former CIA chief said Wednesday while visiting Israel, and the US should begin military preparations to block the Islamic Republic from reaching that goal.

“To believe anything other than that Iran is working to get a nuclear weapon is hopelessly naive,” James Woolsey said in an interview on the sidelines of the Herzliya Conference.

“At some point someone is going to have to decide to use force to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. I’d argue that those who say we can deal adequately with Iran through deterrence are quite naive.

“National survival is at issue. In the near term that’s the case for Israel, but in the somewhat longer term it is [the case] for the US, which from Iran’s point of view, is the ‘Great Satan,’” he continued. “This is a world-class problem, not an eastern Mediterranean or Persian Gulf problem. The politics of the world will change if this regime gets the bomb.”

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Friday the Islamic Republic would not yield to international pressure to abandon its nuclear course, threatening retaliation for sanctions aimed at Iran's oil exports.

"Threatening Iran and attacking Iran will harm America.... Sanctions will not have any impact on our determination to continue our nuclear course.... In response to threats of oil embargo and war, we have our own threats to impose at the right time," Khamenei told worshippers in a speech broadcast live on state television.

"I have no fear of saying that we will back and help any nation or group that wants to confront and fight against the Zionist regime [Israel]."

Clegg was quoted as telling The House Magazine, a weekly British political journal, that he feared Israel could carry out a pre-emptive strike on Iran

In the event anyone had doubts about Tehran's ill-intent towards Israel, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is doing his utmost to set the record straight.

Ahmadinejad on Wednesday met with Islamic Jihad chief Ramadan Abdullah and stressed the "inspiring role that the Palestinian people's resistance has played in provoking Muslim nations to stand against their tyrannical rulers."

Tehran is a major backer for terror groups seeking to destroy Israel and donates funds to Hamas, Hizbullah, Islamic Jihad, the PFLP, to name a few.

Ahmadinejad also claimed international pressure on Damascus is due to "Syriasupporting the regional resistance movement against Tel-Aviv," rather than the brutal crackdown of President Bashar al-Assad that has claimed over 6,000 civilian lives.

He made no effort to reconcile his claim with the fact that the Arab League nations, most of whom have been technically at war with Israel since 1948, are among those that have imposed sanctions on Syria. Many are also donors and supporters to the PLO, Hamas in Gaza, and other terror groups supported by Tehran and Damascus.

We have a president who has a problem with Israel. According to a New York Timescolumn, "Don't Do It, Bibi," Obama called Bibi Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, in mid-January to demand a promise that Israel would not bomb Iran in the next few months. Obama doesn't want a spike in oil prices before our presidential election. The threat of unhappy voters is more important to Obama than a nuclear Iran. He is more concerned about his re-election than he is about a dirty bomb in the hands of a terrorist that could waste one of our cities, a destabilized Middle East, or a nuclear attack on Israel.

Obama's indifference to Israel's safety is a moral problem, but it is more than that. It poses a grave threat to our national security.
