New footage from the Israeli Navy showcases the most advanced submarine in the IDF's arsenal: the Dolphin-class INS Tanin (Crocodile).

The nuclear-capable submarine boasts an array of sophisticated weaponry, as well as the latest in intelligence-gathering technology.

It stands at a whopping 68 meters long, compared to 57.3 meters on average for other submarines.

"The submarine will receive more long-term missions, and for a greater amount of time, than submarines" the IDF possesses, one navy officer explained, adding that as a result the Navy had "extended by several days our ability to operate silently and secretly in enemy territory."

There Is No Money For The U.S. Navy's Next Generational Nuclear Submarine

DoD Buzz: Navy’s Next Generational Nuclear Submarine Fund Has No Money

The Navy and Congress have yet to find money for a newly created account designed to pay for the services’ fleet of next-generation nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarines slated to begin service in 2031 – the Ohio Replacement Program.

The special fund is a product of the concern from lawmakers and admirals that the cost of the Ohio Replacement program would bankrupt the rest of the Navy’s shipbuilding budget.

As a result, the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act established the National Sea-Based Deterrence Fund – a special account created specifically to fund the Ohio Replacement program. However, Congress has yet to assign any funding to the account.

China’s aggressive expansion of its submarine fleet has been commented upon by a U.S defence expert. Vice Admiral Joseph Mulloy, deputy chief of naval operations for capabilities and resources, told the House Armed Services Committee on sea power that China has been expanding the number and geographic areas of operation for its submarines. However, from a quality point of view they are not at par with the U.S submarines.

WNU Editor: A few days ago Vice Admiral Joseh Mulloy mentioned that the Chinese submarine fleet now outnumbers the U.S. fleet .... Top U.S. Admiral: China Submarines Now Outnumber The U.S. Fleet. I guess someone told him that he better clarify his remarks. But what is being left out of the discussion are the trends .... and all the trends do not look promising .... China getting three to five times as many submarines each year compared to the USA (Next Big Future).

Navy Investigating If Female Officers Were Secretly Recorded On Submarine -- Washington Post

The Navy is investigating reports that some of the first women ever assigned to a Navy submarine were secretly recorded on video while showering, a Navy official said.

The incidents allegedly occurred on the USS Wyoming, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine that is based in Kings Bay, Ga. The Navy first learned of the allegations last month, and launched an investigation along with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the official said.

Navy Lt. Leslie Hubbell, a service spokeswoman, declined to specify what happened, citing the ongoing investigation. The Navy was notified of possible criminal behavior on board the Wyoming, she said. Another Navy official confirmed it involves allegations that women were recorded on the Wyoming in various states of undress.

For every sailor who’s not in a submarine, submarines are real scary.

Stealthy and heavily-armed, subs are by far the most powerful naval vessels in the world for full-scale warfare—and arguably the best way to sink those more obvious icons of naval power, aircraft carriers.

The public may not fully appreciate submarines’ lopsided combat advantage, but the world’s leading navies sure do. Today Chinese, Russian and American submarines, among others, are busy sneaking up on, tracking and practicing sinking rival fleets’ flattops.

My Comment: China has repeatedly mentioned that they want to have at least 10 aircraft carriers in the future .... I guess this explains why they are focusing on anti-submarine technologies.

On the flip side .... the Chinese have also surprised U.S. carriers in the past .... The uninvited guest: Chinese sub pops up in middle of U.S. Navy exercise, leaving military chiefs red-faced (Daily Mail).

Amid US Plans For Continued Asia Presence, A Shrinking Submarine Fleet -- Stars and Stripes

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — The U.S. Navy bills its submarine fleet as the world’s most advanced, a boast that few in the Asia-Pacific region would argue.

Submariners can collect intelligence, protect surface ships and launch Navy SEAL teams in a region brimming with international tensions — all with minimal chance of detection.

However, the one thing that the U.S. fleet hasn’t been able to do is escape the realities of both age and cost.

The U.S. Navy’s attack submarine fleet is slated to drop steadily from 55 currently active to 41 by 2028, according to the service’s most recent shipbuilding plan.
