Report: North Korea May Have 100 Atomic Weapons By 2020

Voice of America: Despite Sanctions, North Korea’s Nuclear Stockpile Continues to Grow

SEOUL - The United States says it is very concerned about a new report that predicts North Korea will expand its nuclear stockpile to as many as 100 weapons by 2020. Analysts say there may be disagreements over Pyongyang’s nuclear capabilities, but there is no doubt the weapons program poses a growing international threat.

Experts on nuclear weapons technology at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies estimate that North Korea currently has 10 to 16 nuclear weapons and is continuing to work on its nuclear program.

North Korea Threatening To Conduct A Nuclear Test

North Korea Threatens To Conduct Nuclear Test -- New York Times

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea said on Thursday that the country had no option but to consider another nuclear test after the recent “political provocation” by the United Nations to try to indict the North’s leaders for crimes against humanity.

The statement from the North Korean Foreign Ministry came two days after a committee of the United Nations voted on Tuesday to adopt a resolution that urged the Security Council to refer the leaders of North Korea to the International Criminal Court for prosecution for extensive violations of human rights.

North Korea has conducted three nuclear tests since 2006, the latest in February last year. Its threat of another test came a day after an American research institute reported that the country might be preparing to reprocess spent nuclear fuel to extract weapons-grade plutonium at its main nuclear complex north of its capital, Pyongyang.

Will North Korea Ever Use Its Nuclear Weapons?

Will North Korea Ever Use Its Nuclear Weapons? -- The Guardian

The US has claimed that Pyongyang is now able to shrink a nuclear weapon to fit on a ballistic missile. NK News asked an expert panel how worried we should be.

A senior US general claimed last week that North Korea has the expertise to build a nuclear warhead that can be mounted on a ballistic missile – although he added that there was no evidence that it had actually done so.

General Curtis Scaparrotti, the commander of US forces in South Korea, said he thought Pyongyang has access to the necessary technology to miniaturise and mount an atomic weapon on a missile because of its ties with Iran and Pakistan.

U.S. General Now Believes That North Korea Is Now Capable Of Building A Miniaturized Warhead

Nation Now Capable of Building Miniaturized Warhead, U.S. General Reports

WASHINGTON—North Korea probably has the capability to produce a nuclear warhead that could be mounted on a rocket, a top U.S. commander said Friday, moving it closer to building a nuclear missile.

Speaking to reporters at the Pentagon, Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, commander of U.S. forces on the Korean peninsula, said North Korea now is capable of building a miniaturized nuclear warhead, a step needed to complete development of a nuclear-tipped missile.

Such nuclear warheads would be small enough to fit on a ballistic missile and would be a major improvement to Pyongyang’s weapons technology. Gen. Scaparrotti said he believes North Korea also has developed a launcher that could carry an intercontinental ballistic missile with a miniaturized warhead.
