Who Really Shot Osama Bin Laden?

Who Shot Bin Laden? A Tale of Two SEALs -- Matthew Cole and Anna Schecter, NBC

Two different alumni of SEAL Team Six, the secretive group of highly trained soldiers that killed Osama bin Laden three years ago, have been profiting off their role in the terror leader’s death since leaving the military.

Former Team Six member Matt Bissonnette, who wrote a bestseller under a pseudonym about shooting bin Laden, is about to publish his second book about being a Navy SEAL. Rob O’Neill, meanwhile, is the unnamed “shooter” who was credited in numerous magazine articles with firing the fatal shots, and according to two SEAL sources will be presented again as the “shooter” in a Fox News interview that airs later this month. He has been traveling the country giving paid motivational speeches on the unspoken understanding that he’s the man who killed bin Laden.

Neither man is the SEAL who was first up the stairs at bin Laden’s Pakistan compound and fired the first shot at Osama. But their dueling narratives are a sign of the backbiting and dysfunction that has roiled a once tight-knit band of warriors as former members violate their code of secrecy in search of the spotlight.

My Comment: I am surprised that these two former U.S. SEALs have come out with their stories .... albeit conflicting accounts. So much for the code of silence .... but on the bigger issue and the one that rally counts .... I am glad that Osama Bin Laden is dead and at the bottom of the sea.

Pentagon Warns SEAL Who Shot Bin Laden Not To Go On FOX News

Pentagon: The Navy SEAL Who Shot Bin Laden Should Not Reveal Himself On Fox News -- Business Insider

On Wednesday, Fox News announced it planned to reveal the identity of the Navy SEAL who shot Osama Bin Laden in a documentary set to air next month.

However, in a statement issued to Business Insider the Pentagon stressed that anyone who participated in the 2011 operation that left the Al Qaeda leader dead was "still bound" by a "non-disclosure agreement to not discuss classified information, especially in a nationally televised interview."

This seems to indicate the SEAL could face a criminal investigation for participating in the documentary.

My Comment: The Pentagon is right .... stay low-key and hidden. But what can the Pentagon do if he decides to show up and reveal himself .... there are no good options for the Pentagon is such a case .... put the man who killed the man who organized 9/11 into court and/or into jail ... I doubt it.

Al Qaeda Wasn’t ‘On The Run’ -- Stephen F. Hayes, Weekly Standard

Why haven’t we seen the documents retrieved in the bin Laden raid?

In the early morning hours of May 2, 2011, an elite team of 25 American military and intelligence professionals landed inside the walls of a compound just outside the Pakistani city of Abbottabad. CIA analysts had painstakingly tracked a courier to the compound and spent months monitoring the activity inside the walls. They’d concluded, with varying levels of confidence, that the expansive white building at the center of the lot was the hideout of Osama bin Laden.

They were correct. And minutes after the team landed, the search for bin Laden ended with a shot to his head.

The primary objective of Operation Neptune Spear was to capture or kill the leader of al Qaeda. But a handful of those on the ground that night were part of a “Sensitive Site Exploitation” team that had a secondary mission: to gather as much intelligence from the compound as they could.

My Comment: A million pages of documents were seized from the Bin laden raid .... and only 10% has been looked at and analyzed !?!?!?!?! There is something seriously wrong here.
