WNU Editor: This is an explosive account on U.S. involvement to the run-up in Libya's civil war .... and while no one else is reporting on this story, I suspect that in the next few days others will pick up on this story .... and will raise even more questions. As to the Washington Times post itself ... it is a long read .... but it is well worth it .... and it shows how U.S. foreign policy was conducted during the run-up to Libya's civil war, and to the eventual ousting and killing of Gadhafi.I have a strong feeling that if this report is true .... and so far it appears to be the case .... there are many in the White House, Hillary Clinton supporters, and in the Pentagon who are not going to be happy with all of this disclosure.

US Expresses Fears As Isis Takes Control Of Northern Libyan Town -- The Guardian

* Isis supporters declare Derna the first town in Libya to join Isis
* US believes Isis is running training camps across Libya

It is a warm October evening in Derna, a small town on Libya’s north east coast, 450 miles from the capital, Tripoli.

The main square is packed with young men, brought by a summons from the town’s self-proclaimed emir to swear allegiance to a newly formed Islamic caliphate.

The emir, on a stage just visible through the jumping throng, calls for the crowd to repeat his calls to join the a caliphate, to listen and follow orders, and to acclaim that the Islamic State (Isis) is here to stay.

To each call, they repeat the chant, roaring their support – and with that, the emir declares Derna the first town in Libya to join the Islamic State, making common cause with fighters in Iraq and Syria.

My Comment: It is amazing how history has a tendency to repeat itself. There was no plan on what to do in Iraq after the invasion and fall of Saddam Hussein .... and there was/is no plan on what to do in Libya after the fall of Gaddafi. Pursuing policies with no appreciation on what may be the consequences has become a trademark for U.S. foreign policy .... and when I look at Washington today and at the people who are running it .... I am more than willing to bet good money that this American tradition is going to continue.

US Mulls Airstrikes On Islamist Training Camp In Libya -- The Australian/The Times

THE US is plotting to expand its military campaign to Libya after fighters loyal to Islamic State were seen training in the east of the country.

A US commander has acknowledged that discussions are under way in Washington about broadening the anti-Islamic State campaign to Libya.

David Rodriguez, commander of US Africa Command, revealed at a Pentagon briefing that Islamic State training camps involving up to 200 militants had been set up in eastern Libya.

Asked whether consideration was being given to targeting the militants there, he replied: “That policy discussion is ongoing and we’ll see how that goes.”

There were no immediate plans to take military action.

My Comment: It appears that the groundwork has been prepared for a greater foreign intervention in the Libyan civil war .... expect U.S. (or someone else) launching airstrikes very soon.

Islamist militiamen stormed the residential annex of America's embassy in Tripoli on Sunday then took the time to give curious journalists in the Libyan capital a tour.

The group has taken up residence in the annex just over a month after diplomats fled to Tunisia over fears of mounting violence in the North African nation in recent months.

An Associated Press journalist walked through the U.S. Embassy compound Sunday after the Dawn of Libya, an umbrella group for Islamist militias, invited onlookers inside.

Windows at the compound had been broken, but it appeared most of the equipment there remained untouched.

A commander for the Dawn of Libya group said his forces had entered and been in control of the compound since last week and are there to protect the compound from looters.
