The Guardian: Personal details of world leaders accidentally revealed by G20 organisers

Exclusive: Obama, Putin, Merkel, Cameron, Modi and others kept in the dark after passport numbers and other details were disclosed in Australia’s accidental privacy breach

The personal details of world leaders at the last G20 summit were accidentally disclosed by the Australian immigration department, which did not consider it necessary to inform those world leaders of the privacy breach.

The Guardian can reveal an employee of the agency inadvertently sent the passport numbers, visa details and other personal identifiers of all world leaders attending the summit to the organizers of the Asian Cup football tournament.

G20 Nations Pledge to Boost Global Economy -- VOA

Leaders of the G-20, representing the world's largest advanced and developing economies, adopted a plan to boost global economic growth by more than $2 trillion over five years, by investing in infrastructure and increasing free trade.

As the G-20 summit ended Sunday in Brisbane, the international leaders also pledged cooperation for strong action against climate change and support for an international response to the Ebola breakout in West Africa.

U.S. President Barack Obama said policies adopted by the G-20 could add 100 million jobs for women over the next decade and stiffen regulation of global corporations.

BRISBANE, Australia—The crisis in Ukraine cast a shadow over an international summit here, with Russian President Vladimir Putin leaving early after facing rebuke from fellow leaders over Moscow’s role in the fighting.

Mr. Putin, the first leader to depart the weekend summit, cited the long flight home from Australia as the reason for his early exit and not the frosty reception he received from many counterparts—including Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper , who told Mr. Putin to “get out of Ukraine.” He didn’t stay for the release of the Group of 20 industrial and developing nations’ closing statement, which outlined over 800 economic commitments by individual countries, including a broad agreement for new carbon-reduction targets.

Putin Plans To Leave G20 Early After West Blasts Russia Over Ukraine -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to leave the G20 summit early, a member of his delegation said, after Western leaders blasted Moscow on Saturday for the crisis in Ukraine and threatened more sanctions.

The Russian official told Reuters that Putin planned to skip a working session on Sunday at the two-day summit in Brisbane and bring forward his departure because he needed to attend meetings in Moscow.

Russia denied it was involved in a recent escalation of military activity in Ukraine, where fighting has claimed more than 4,000 lives, but faced strong rebukes from Western leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

World Leaders Arrive In Australia For G20 Summit -- Voice of America

World leaders are arriving in Brisbane, Australia for a two-day meeting of the world's top 20 economic powers expected to focus on global finances, climate change and Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived Friday in the eastern coastal city, after Kyiv accused Russia of sending a fresh influx of troops and weapons into eastern Ukraine. Also, four Russian warships have entered international waters off Australia's northeastern coast. Australian warships were sent to monitor them.

Russia has said the warships are merely testing their range, but Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has accused Putin of trying to "revive the lost glories of tsarism."
