Bloomberg: U.S. Approves the Sale of Armed Drones

The U.S. has approved its first policy for selling armed drones to allies, the State Department said.

The new guidelines set out procedures for both commercial and military drone exports, which the department said it will assess on a “case-by-case basis,” including “armed systems.” It also seeks to impose restrictions on purchasers concerning how the unmanned systems can be used, as well as provisions for the U.S. to monitor compliance.

Dark Sword Could Become World's First Supersonic Drone -- Want China Times

China's mysterious "Dark Sword" combat drone could become the world's first supersonic unmanned aviation vehicle, reports the website of the country's national broadcaster CCTV.

The Dark Sword — known in Chinese as "Anjian" — made quite a stir in 2006 when a conceptual model of the unusually shaped triangular aircraft made its debut at the Zhuhai Airshow in southern China's Guangdong province.

The model was subsequently exhibited at the Paris Air Show but has disappeared from future airshows, with no official word on the development of the UAV. Some claim the project has already been scrapped due to insufficient funding or other reasons, while others believe the development of the drone is now being kept secret as it is undergoing further research and testing.

My Comment: I have to see it to believe it .... but the fact that China is making rapid strides in developing and growing its military should not surprise anyone.

The U.S. Army Wants 'Pocket Drones'

‘Pocket Drones’: U.S. Army Developing Tiny Surveillance Tools For The Next Big War -- Washington Times

Future U.S. Army soldiers sent into combat may have a brand new tool at their disposal: the pocket drone.

The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center in Massachusetts is developing a “pocket-sized aerial surveillance device” for soldiers assigned to small units in dangerous environments.

When the Army’s efforts come to fruition, the Cargo Pocket Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance program will provide dismounted troops with real-time surveillance of threats in their environment.

“The Cargo Pocket ISR is a true example of an applied systems approach for developing new Soldier capabilities,” said Dr. Laurel Allender, acting NSRDEC technical director, Army.mil reported July 21.
