China used more cement between 2011 and 2013 than the U.S. used in the entire 20th Century.

It’s a statistic so mind-blowing that it stunned Bill Gates and inspired haiku. But can it be true, and, if so, how? Yes, China’s economy has grown at an extraordinary rate, and it has more than four times as many people as the United States. But the 1900s were America’s great period of expansion, the century in which the U.S. built almost all of its roads and bridges, the Interstate system, the Hoover Dam, and many of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. And China and the U.S. are roughly the same size in terms of geographic area, ranking third and fourth in the world, respectively.

WNU Editor: I can attest to these stats. I have been going back and forth to China since the 1980s .... and every-time I go there I am always shocked to see how much everything has changed.

How do we know the war is coming in the first place? Because the advertising for it is out. Amongst plenty of other evidence, one Chinese front organisation conducted a poll on Australian attitudes to the ANZUS treaty and a Chinese attack on Japan. Why would they conduct such a poll unless they are going to attack Japan? Not that they were interested in the results as such. They just wanted to be able to publicize the poll in order to try to keep Australia on the sidelines of their war.

The war will have two functions for China. Firstly, it will provide legitimacy for the regime as economic growth stalls. Secondly, the Chinese will have pride in humiliating their neighbouring countries, and the United States, by defeating them in battle and creating no-go zones in the oceans which other countries won’t be able to enter without Chinese permission. The war will have nothing to do with oil and gas resources under the seabed and securing sea-lanes. The Chinese have never offered those excuses for their behavior themselves. The excuses are the creation of Western pundits for something that otherwise is stupid, destructive, and primitive.

WNU Editor: I disagree with this article's premise and its explanation of what may happen in a China war .... but I do like the last paragraph ....

.... if you don’t like the idea of the US being involved in a war with China? Well stop buying anything made in China.

WNU Editor: This is not a secret strategy .... this blog has been saying the same thing for years on what is China's ultimate strategic goal and the Chinese themselves have been very public about it (albeit not officially) .... in short .... they want to be the world's political/military/economic superpower. Whether they will be achieved this is another story .... and in my opinion I personally doubt that they will be successful and the reason why is simple .... they lack the cultural and diplomatic understandings, nuances, and sensitivities that are critical and essential when it comes to managing international relations .... especially during times of crisis.

(Reuters) - China's ruling Communist Party will likely never open all the files on its recent painful past, including the Cultural Revolution and Great Leap Forward, and sees no need to reassess those periods, a senior party historian said on Monday.

The 1958-1961 Great Leap Forward, when millions starved to death in Mao Zedong's botched industrialization campaign, and the 1966-1976 Cultural Revolution are two of modern China's most sensitive historical events.

During the Cultural Revolution, children turned on parents and students on teachers after Mao declared class war, convulsing the country in chaos and violence.
