WNU Editor: Everyone is having a good laugh right now .... but last week the Islamic State hacked Centcom's social media accounts and put up some obvious propaganda .... but what would have happened if they had did something else .... something more insidious .... like posting the tweets that were posted at UPI and the New York Post .... or something worse like a bulletin that a nuclear device had gone off at one of their bases .... I can only imagine the scramble and panic that would ensue to find out if the story was accurate or not. Or better still .... organize a hack that would seize the White House, Pentagon, and the twitter feeds of AP, Reuters, BBC, and a few news outlets .... and then broadcast that nuclear missiles were inbound .... I can guarantee you one thing then .... no one is going to be laughing. Yup ... I can see it now ....

FBI Issues Warning After Cyber Attack On Sony Pictures

Exclusive: FBI Warns Of 'Destructive' Malware In Wake of Sony Attack -- Reuters

(Reuters) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation warned U.S. businesses that hackers have used malicious software to launch a destructive cyberattack in the United States, following a devastating breach last week at Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Cybersecurity experts said the malicious software described in the alert appeared to describe the one that affected Sony, which would mark first major destructive cyber attack waged against a company on U.S. soil. Such attacks have been launched in Asia and the Middle East, but none have been reported in the United States. The FBI report did not say how many companies had been victims of destructive attacks.

White House Computers Breached By Suspected Russian Hackers

Hackers Breach Some White House Computers -- Washington Post

Hackers thought to be working for the Russian government breached the unclassified White House computer networks in recent weeks, sources said, resulting in temporary disruptions to some services while cybersecurity teams worked to contain the intrusion.

White House officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation, said that the intruders did not damage any of the systems and that, to date, there is no evidence the classified network was hacked.

Report: Russian Hackers Attacked The U.S. Financial System In Mid-August

FBI Examining Whether Russia Is Tied To JPMorgan Hacking -- Bloomberg

Russian hackers attacked the U.S. financial system in mid-August, infiltrating and stealing data from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and at least one other bank, an incident the FBI is investigating as a possible retaliation for government-sponsored sanctions, according to two people familiar with the probe.

The attack resulted in the loss of gigabytes of sensitive data, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the probe is still preliminary. Authorities are investigating whether recent infiltrations of major European banks using a similar vulnerability are also linked to the attack, one of the people said.
