Military Dogs Are Loyal

New Jersey 105.5: Military dog shows the ultimate sign of loyalty in amazing photo

WNU Editor: My GF has a Rottweiler .... and he has this annoying habit of plopping his big head on my feet when I am sitting on the couch or when I am working at my desk. I always took it as a sign that he wants to be friendly .... but after a while I began to realize that this was his way of not only looking at what is happening around him .... but more importantly keeping an eye on ME so that when I move he will know it. Here is a pic of me from last summer with my arch nemesis who is in competition for the affections of my GF. Sighhhh .... my GF tells me that I do not have a chance.

K-9 ‘Agents’ Lift Spirits Of The Secret Service With Heroics At The White House -- New York Times

WASHINGTON — Jordan took a kick to his snout. Hurricane was slammed to the ground and repeatedly punched. Both were rushed to a veterinarian for treatment.

But by stopping a fence jumper from getting into the White House on Wednesday night, the two members of the Secret Service’s K-9 unit accomplished something that humans in the agency have been hard-pressed to do recently: They performed their duties flawlessly and, at least for a day, lifted the morale of a Secret Service that had been rocked by a series of embarrassing incidents.

What the dogs, both Belgian Malinois, did was stop a man who had managed to get over the fence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. The dogs, which can run 25 miles per hour and have a bite that applies hundreds of pounds of pressure per square inch, knocked the man to the ground, and bit him. As the man tried to fend the dogs off, officers moved in and arrested him.

The veterinarian determined that the dogs had sustained only minor injuries.

My Comment: For some reason I have this image in my head of a U.S. Secret Service agent being specifically assigned and made responsible for picking up the doggy-poo on the White House lawn. Don't laugh .... that is exactly what I did on my lawn this morning ... courtesy of my GF's Rottweiler. It is a thankless job .... but someone has to do it.

The U.S. Military Celebrates National Dog Day

National Dog Day Turns Into Military Canine Lovefest On Twitter -- Washington Post

Perhaps you’ve heard that today is National Dog Day. According to the website devoted to the occasion, it was founded in 2004 to honor dogs for “their endearing patience, unquestioning loyalty, for their work protecting our streets, homes and families.”

The holiday sparked the hash tag #NationalDogDay, in which Twitter users posted photographs of their favorite dogs. And that quickly turned to veterans and U.S. service members sharing pictures of military working dogs and other canines they encountered while deployed.

My Comment: My father loved German Shepherds .... correction .... BIG German Shepherds. In my case .... I had a Border Collie for 14 years .... damn .... those dogs are smart and loyal. As for the GF .... she lives in the country so instead of a gun she keeps a well trained Rottweiler for protection. That's me with him in the picture below (it was taken last month). I have only one thing to say about Rottweillers .... if they are trained properly and treated with love and respect, they are not only loyal but they are the best guard dogs in the world.
