The Palestinians set September 20th as the date for the much-anticipated vote over Palestinian statehood at the United Nations, according to AFP.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki informed UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will ask the international community to recognize Palestine as a sovereign state on the first day of the annual opening gathering at UN headquarters in New York.
“On behalf of whom will you present a resolution in September? Mr. Abbas or Hamas?” asked Israel’s ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor. “Will it be on behalf of both the Palestinian Authority and the Hamas terrorist organization, which advances a charter calling for the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews?"

The Palestinian preparations for September's UN bid for statehood are gathering speed: On Saturday, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki announced that Palestinians will present their application for United Nations membership on September 20 – the first day of the UN General Assembly's 66th session.
Several days of world leaders' speeches are expected to follow, and the Palestinians hope to schedule President Mahmoud Abbas' speech for the following Friday, September 23.

Choosing Friday for Abbas' speech is not coincidental: Friday is the day in which Arabs traditionally hold mass prayers, and since the onset of the Arab spring, it is the day in which masses across the Arab world take to the streets to protest against their regimes.
The Palestinians hope to draw out the same masses in capital cities not only in the Arab world, but in the West as well, in support of their bid for a Palestinian state.
They hope that Cairo's Tahrir Square – the symbol of the Egyptian revolution – will turn into "Palestine Square" for a day. To achieve these goals, the PLO is set to launch a worldwide campaign to gather support for the Palestinian cause.
Despite denials by the PA, it is easy to see why Israel expects rioting and violence to take place.

Israeli security forces are importing horses, water cannons, tear-gas launchers and a nauseating noise machine to control crowds if they become violent at Palestinian protests planned next month to support their bid for U.N. endorsement of statehood.
Israel fears that a single incident a Palestinian killing an Israeli with a firebomb or gunshot, or an Israeli soldier killing a Palestinian during a riot could trigger a flood of violence when large crowds are already out protesting.
Palestinians are planning mass demonstrations across the West Bank and abroad to coincide with the September U.N. General Assembly session, which they hope will give official endorsement for their state. The statehood initiative reflects frustration with long stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said preparations have been under way for several weeks, stressing non-lethal methods the police are used to employing.A section of southern Israel has been turned into a “September training camp” to train soldiers on how to handle violent scenarios without causing fatalities, according to Israeli officials

The ultimate goals were to abolish private property, control education, control and reduce population, and control the economy.
