Ukraine Rebels Reject Peace Talks. Are Prepared To Escalate The War Further

Voice of America: Ukraine Rebel Leader Announces New Offensive, Rules Out Peace Talks

WNU Editor: I did not expect a return to a full scale war so quickly .... my betting was that the fighting would escalate in springtime when the weather got better. But the war has returned, and the ferocity of it is claiming scores of lives throughout the region every day. What has surprised everyone is how weak and disorganized the Ukraine Army is. This is an army that was (and is) not prepared to fight .... especially in a region where they have little if any public support, and where the enemy knows the terrain extremely well. They have been defeated, and their losses have been staggering high .... and the fact that Kiev has been quiet for the past two days in reporting on the war is revealing in itself .... there is no good news on the front.

The pro-Russian rebel leadership .... smelling a military victory .... are now planning to escalate the fighting even further .... to drive all Ukrainian military forces out from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions .... my suggestion is that they should not. In fact .... this is the perfect time to enter into negotiations .... to get what you want .... autonomy, management of your own fiscal affairs, language and cultural rights, etc., and to evict what remains of the Ukraine army out of your territories without even firing a shot. In the end .... a political solution will be needed. Unfortunately .... if what I have been hearing for the post 24 hours is accurate .... the military option is the preferred route now (for both parties), so expect more fighting.
