Poll: 40% In The U.S. Believe The Afghan War Was Worth It

ABC News: Post-ABC poll: Support for Afghanistan war rises as combat mission ends

Update: At the End of Afghanistan War, Most Doubt its Value (ABC News)

My Comment:What probably has helped in the rise of the positive numbers is that the main stream media has basically ignored the story .... so the constant drumbeat of negative news has not come into play. As to what is my take on the entire campaign .... was the Afghan war worth it? In the beginning it was definitely necessary, but after routing the Taliban the priority among the U.S. and its coalition partners was that they should have gotten out within a year .... instead of resorting to nation building and maintaining a permanent military presence. Transforming a 7th century society into the 21rst century coupled with imposing certain western ideals is not an easy task for outsiders to do .... change has to always come from within .... and sometimes (if not most of the time) ... this transformation will not occur. If this was realized in the beginning .... a lot of money .... and certainly a lot of lives .... would not have been lost.
