Tensions Escalate One More Notch [Updated]

Probably the most inflammatory scenario has come to light and it is somewhat predictable: Syria now begins to cast the blame on Israel. Could this be the beginnings of rationalizing a chemical attack on Israel?

ISRAEL-EGYPT BORDER – The rebel bomb attack that killed Syrian defense officials today was aided by Israel, a top Syrian official claimed to WND.

Israel gave satellite imagery to the rebels who carried out the attack, charged the official, who spoke with WND on condition of anonymity.

The official said President Assad – whose brother-in-law was killed in the bombing along Syria’s defense minister – is debating whether to issue a press release blaming Israel for assisting in the attack.

The Syrian official who spoke to WND admitted the defense minister, Gen. Dawoud Rajha, was the key official behind the installation of Syria’s missile system, which has been aided by Iran.

Syrian state TV said Rajha and President Assad’s brother-in-law, Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Assef Shawkat, were killed in a blast during a high level security meeting in Damascus. Syria’s interior minister also was injured.

Shawkat is married to Assad’s elder sister, Bushra.

Reports called the attack a suicide bombing, but other reports said a device was placed within the building.

“This is the volcano we talked about, we have just started,” he said.

This is a very interesting development. The speculation has been increasing over the past several months that Syria would attack Israel in a last ditch effort to save Assad's government and we're definitely at the end of his reign. Anything can happen now. The fact that Israel is already being blamed could be the writing on the wall for future action, possibly involving the use of chemical weapons. We'll know soon, as the situation is changing on an hourly basis now.

Update:

On top of everything else we have seen today, we now see this:

The supreme leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood – and of its president elect Mohammed Morsi – has called for jihad on Israel. The website Jihad Watch cited a report in last Thursday’s Egypt-based Al Wafd newspaper. The report said that, during his weekly sermon, "Muhammad Badi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide, confirmed the necessity for every Muslim to strive to save al-Quds [Jerusalem] from the hands of the rapists [Israelis] and to cleanse Palestine from the clutches of the occupation, deeming this an individual duty for all Muslims.”

More specifically, the report said, Badi "called on all Muslims to wage jihad with their money and their selves to free al-Quds”—the same exact language one finds in al-Qaeda’s tracts. (...)
