Bloomberg: Rebels Claim Control of Crucial Ukraine Town as Truce Imperiled
Rebels in eastern Ukraine said they took over the strategic crossroad town Debaltseve and hundreds of government troops surrendered in fighting that’s undermining a fragile truce.
Ukraine’s military denied soldiers had surrendered and said heavy fighting was taking place in the town’s outskirts. Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine’s government shouldn’t prevent its troops from laying down their arms after the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic said it had taken control of most of the rail and highway junction linking the breakaway regions Donetsk and Luhansk.
