Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned against allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons in his speech to the AIPAC Convention in Washington Monday night local time, vowing to never let Israel live under the shadow of annihilation.
Addressing concerns about the cost a military strike aimed at stopping its nuclear program, Netanyahu said "it's about time we start talking about the cost of not stopping Iran."A nuclear-armed Iran, he said, would provide a nuclear umbrella and thereby increase global terrorism, it could choke off the world's oil supply, and could threaten the world with nuclear terrorism.Iran, he said, must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.Israel, the prime minister added, has been waiting for years to see if diplomacy and sanctions against Iran's nuclear program to work, but said they have not been successful. He warned that Israel cannot wait much longer.
As the prime minister of Israel, he continued, "I will never let my people live in the shadow of annihilation."
"In every generation, there are those who wish to destroy the Jewish people. In this generation, we are blessed to live in a time when there is a Jewish state capable of defending the Jewish people," he concluded, thanking AIPAC and the United States for supporting Israel and its right to self-defense.The speech followed a meeting with US President Barack Obama at the White House earlier Monday, after which he said Israel's position on Iran was "accepted with understanding" by the American administration.
Connecting the dots on this situation won't be difficult and we can look above at the bolded statements for assistance.
1. Sanctions "have not been successful".
2. Iran will "not be allowed" to develop nuclear arms.
3. Israel "cannot wait much longer".
4. The U.S. has recognized and acknowledged Israel's "right to self defense".
That pretty much says it all doesn't it?
The U.S. is willing to wait indefinitely to allow sanctions "more time" - time which Israel doesn't have. However, Israel is free to engage in "self-defense".
Could this picture be any more clear?
Israel will have to make their own determinations regarding what to do for their self-defense, and the U.S. will not stand in their way. Nor will the U.S. help overtly (perhaps the U.S. can aid and assist "behind the scenes" in some way).
The cards are now all out in the open for everyone to see.
The ball now seems to be in Israel's court. The one bolded statement above is most likely a preview of what is to come, as Netanyahu vowed to "never let Israel live under the shadow of annihilation."
It's important to remember - once the powder keg is ignited, there will be no turning back. We should expect to see the Isaiah 17-->Ezekiel 38-39 scenarios developing rapidly if tensions ignite between Israel and Iran.
It looks like the Middle East is about to blow.
