Syrian President Bashar Assad has made a “serious decision” to open a front with Israel along the Golan Heights, he said in an interview published Monday. Shortly thereafter, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in a public statement that “any who threaten to harm, or harm, Israel will be harmed.”
In an interview with Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar, Assad said his country’s military action against Israel would be substantial, sustained and effective, not a “random firing of mortars” across the border.
Netanyahu, speaking at the Knesset’s Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee, promised retaliation against the Syrian regime and said that Israel was “ready for any eventuality.”
Reiterating Israel’s right to self-defense in the face of increasing violence on the opposite side of the Syrian border, Netanyahu asserted that ”the crumbling of the UN force on the Golan Heights underscores the fact that Israel cannot depend on international forces for its security. They can be part of the arrangements. They cannot be the basic foundation of Israel’s security.”
Syria President Bashar Assad has issued a strong warning to Israel, threatening a fierce response should Israel strike targets in his country again, Lebanese paper Al Akhbarreported on Monday.
Assad reportedly said that Israel had made a serious error in judgment in attacking Syrian targets, adding that Israeli attacks will elicit a strategic, rather than local, response.
The Syrian president told a group of visiting Jordanians that the resistance will not launch primitive rockets aimlessly from time to time, but a well-planned and continuous resistance.
Assad told Al-Manar TV at the end of May a similar plan, stating that “there is pressure by the people to open a new front on the Golan.”
“Even among the Arab world there is a clear readiness to join the fight against Israel,” he added in his interview with the Hezbollah TV station.
Assad stated that Hezbollah is involved in fighting the Israeli enemy and its agents in Syria and Lebanon. He attributed the failure of the Syrian opposition to its dependence on outside funding and said that it failed to create a real rift in the country. On Monday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Israel was dealing with “a new Middle East.”
“We are seeing a new Middle East that is raging and volatile,” the premier said. “We are seeing this on all of the fronts, particularly in the north with Syria.”
“We are dealing with these developments with determination,” Netanyahu said of the ongoing situation in Syria. “This requires us to protect the security of our citizens.”
Bashar Assad continues to issue threats against Israel. A week after saying his people are pressuring him to open a front in the Golan Heights, the Syrian president reportedly said that opening a Golan front "is a very serious matter."
Assad reportedly made the statements during meetings withJordanian opposition elements, according to Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar. One of the Jordanians quoted Assad as saying that the Syrians are ruling out "formal resistance" for show, with the odd missile being fired at Israel.
Jordanian sources told the paper that the Syrian president noted that the World Bank had presented him with a "generous offer." Assad was reportedly offered a loan of $21 billion for the funding of reconstruction projects in Syria but turned it down.
The report further stated that Assad said he would allow a Russian company to produce oil off the Syrian coast. He stressed that he is confident Moscow will continue to stand by Syria as its national interests are at stake.
Moved by the Assad regime’s rapid advance, the Obama administration could decide this week to approve lethal aid for the beleaguered Syrian rebels and will weigh the merits of a less likely move to send in U.S. airpower to enforce a no-fly zone over the civil war-wracked nation, officials said Sunday.
White House meetings are planned over the coming days, as Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government forces are apparently poised for an attack on the key city of Homs, which could cut off Syria’s armed opposition from the south of the country. As many as 5,000 Hezbollah fighters are now in Syria, officials believe, helping the regime press on with its campaign after capturing the town of Qusair near the Lebanese border last week.
Secretary of State John Kerry postponed a planned trip Monday to Israel and three other Mideast countries to participate in White House discussions, said officials who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity.
While nothing has been concretely decided, U.S. officials said President Barack Obama was leaning closer toward signing off on sending weapons to vetted, moderate rebel units. The U.S. has spoken of possibly arming the opposition in recent months but has been hesitant because it doesn’t want to al-Qaida-linked and other extremists fighting alongside the anti-Assad militias to end up with the weapons.
Syria’s precarious position in the heart of the Middle East makes the conflict extremely unpredictable. Lebanon, across the western border, suffered its own brutal civil war in the 1970s and the 1980s and is already experiencing increased interethnic tensions. Iraq, to Syria’s east, is mired in worsening violence. And Israel to the southwest has seen shots fired across the contested Golan Heights and has been forced to strike what it claimed were advanced weapons convoys heading to Hezbollah, with whom it went to war with in 2006.
Iran could wreak havoc in the region through its support of Shiite militant groups, and U.S. officials fear Iran may seek to retaliate for any stepped-up American involvement by targeting Israel or U.S. interests in the region. It’s also unclear what American action would mean for relations with Russia, which has provided Assad with military and diplomatic support even as it claims that it working with the United States to try to organize a Syrian peace conference.
Yigal Alon writing in the October, 1976 edition of Foreign Affairs titled, Israel: The case for defensible borders, exposed the critical defects in the armistice lines existing on June 4, 1967 - the same lines with minor adjustments that John Kerry would have the Jewish state shrink to. Such a withdrawal contradicts the very meaning of U.N. Resolution 242. As Alon wrote, …”For Israel, a military defeat would mean the physical extinction of a large part of its population and the elimination of the Jewish state. To lose a single war is to lose everything.”
Without retaining the hill country, that runs like a spine north and south through Judea and Samaria, Israel’s pitifully narrow 9 mile wide coastal plain, which includes Netanya, Ben Gurion airport and Tel Aviv, will be at the mercy of the Palestinian Arab thugocracy just as southern Israeli towns and villages endure relentless aggression from the Hamas occupied Gaza Strip. That is why the Two-State-Solution peddled by the EU, the UN, the Obama Administration and much of the world will usher in a new Final Solution.
John Kerry works at the pleasure of President Barack Hussein Obama whose outreach to the Muslim world has been an unmitigated disaster for the West, the Free World and particularly for the State of Israel. Obama has more than likely prevented Israel for the last five years from effectively nullifying the existential nuclear threat that the genocidal Iranian regime poses to the Jewish state. Kerry’s boss has allowed one red line after another to disappear like invisible ink.
But it is the fraudulent Palestinian narrative that the world has fallen for that is the most pernicious to Israel’s image. It allows an uninformed world to embrace the falsehoods of an Arab people who call themselves Palestinians and creates an atmosphere where the embattled Jewish state is unjustly and grotesquely demonized, allowing such foul anti-Israel movements as the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) organization to continue its dirty work.
That the conflict is not territorial but based upon the Muslim refusal to accept a Jewish state, whatever its borders, in territory once conquered and occupied under the banner of Islam is lost on the functionaries who inhabit the international corridors of power. And sadly too many Israeli leaders refuse to accept the obvious, preferring to believe that the Arabs who call themselves Palestinians can ever be anything but serial Jew haters. Most diplomats, with few exceptions, still harbor the illusion that territorial compromise will satisfy the Arab and Muslim world. So again and again the discredited corpse known as the Two-State-Solution is exhumed and presented as the fall back default plan.
And this is the same suicidal plan for Israel that the current Secretary of State, at the behest of President Obama, is bringing for the fifth time.
It was Albert Einstein who said: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
The Obama administration’s legs are wobbling under the weight of so many scandals lately that whole chunks of the edifice – the IRS, the NSA, the DOJ – are threatening to implode, particularly without support from the normally adoring media. Even the New York Times– the New York Times! – is no longer willing to bolster an administration whose totalitarian urges have been exposed to the light.
So much for the administration that promised transparency. But such behavior is entirely consistent with the power-hungry nature of Obama and his cronies. Remember, this is a cabal of Alinskyites who possess an open resentment of and frustration with the Constitution, the “flawed,” “living document” that throws up roadblocks to their totalitarian agenda. They have made no secret of their lack of respect for the First Amendment, working as they have in concert with the Muslim Brotherhood to criminalize criticism of Islam. They have made no secret of their lack of respect for the Second Amendment, working as they are toward the de facto banning of private gun ownership.
From Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s obsession with eliminating choice from the lives of New Yorkers, to the IRS punishing people for their politics, “liberals” have a very illiberalcompulsion to control every aspect of your existence, not too dissimilar from the way in which sharia dictates every aspect of a fundamentalist Muslim’s life. Our side needs to be as conscious of the power of language as the left has been for the past several decades. Terminology matters. The left is not liberal, it’s totalitarian, and it’s time we call it like it is and do so relentlessly.
The bottom line is this. You can’t get justice within the political system in America anymore because the politicians own it. What stopped the mob? The Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). What will stop the Obama administration? RICO.
First, the IRS is not a scandal but a branch of the criminal abuse of power that runs in an octopus-like tree fashion throughout America’s government agencies. It is part of the shady backroom deals that became ObamaCare. Did you think it was a coincidence that ObamaCare dramatically expanded the IRS’s authority, size and budget? Were you surprised when Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius admitted she had pressuredpharmaceutical companies to support ObamaCare? Who gets to decide who lives and who dies? ObamaCare’s political appointees and perked bureaucrats do. What’s ObamaCare? A forced tax for health services you must pay for or else you will be fined for services that these politicos and bureaucrats may or may not give you
In the mob world, the Obama administration’s activities are called shakedowns, kickbacks, extortion, bribes, and payola. The political appointees and bureaucrats are the capos, crew, foot soldiers and wise guys. You get paid if you play. If you don’t pay, you don’t get to play. Security and safety comes at a price and anything goes to stay in power. Let’s call the Obama administration what it is: organized crime and treat it as such. The mob, the political mafia currently known as the Obama administration, has taken over Washington. It’s RICO time.
In the U.S. the act of engaging in criminal activity as a structured group is referred to as “racketeering.”
Today RICO needs to be applied to the political mob that has infiltrated the government agencies and the White House beginning with the IRS and spreading out into other agencies and beyond.
What the Obama administration is doing is dangerously upside down. Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness. As Hagmann’s DHS insider recently put it, “It’s a political dissident list,” the Obama administration is collecting, “not an enemy threat list.” History tells us about what happens next unless this is stopped. It’s RICO time.
This street-thug shakedown tactic is two pronged because the Obama mafia, like the mob world, have actively been silencing and intimidating the journalists, and by extension the whistleblowers and sources who speak to them about government malfeasance. In the mob world, like the Obama administration, they see whistleblowers and sources as rats. It’s RICO time.
