Escalation In Southern Israel: Barrage Of Rocket Fire

Things are heating up in the southern part of Israel. The question becomes "why?" and "why now"?

The Air Force struck targets in Gaza Monday in response to a barrage of more than 30 rockets and mortar shells fired into farming districts in southern Israel by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. An army source said that that one of terror targets struck included a Hamas position hidden inside a mosque in Gaza. The source added that Hamas often uses "religious sites as cover for its terrorist activities against Israelis."
Earlier Monday, the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel was bombarded with dozens of Palestinian rockets and mortars. Local residents reported awaking to the sounds of explosions, and rushing for cover in safe rooms designed to protect them from the projectiles.

Ronit Minaker, of the Eshkol Regional Council, said that residents received SMS messages and heard alarms beginning at around 6am Monday morning, and heard dozens of strikes on the area over the course of around an hour and a half. The strikes began at the same hour of the morning when the local children usually wake up, and on Monday were required to spend the first few hours of their last day of the holidays waiting in bomb shelters, Minaker said.

Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired more than 55 rockets and mortars into southern Israel early Monday morning, causing damage to a residential building. Most of the shells landed in open areas and there were no injuries reported.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad’s military branches claimed joint responsibility for the attacks on Israel. Hamas’s Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades and Islamic Jihad’s al-Quds Brigades stated that the mortars and rockets were fired “in response to the Zionist crimes last night that caused the wounding of 11 civilians, among them two children.”

Palestinian Maan News reported that Israel fired more than 10 tank shells at the southern Gaza Strip Monday morning, striking near the Ammar bin Yasir Mosque in Khan Younis. The Hamas Health Ministry reported that 3 Gaza residents were injured, one seriously. Al Arabiya cited Palestinians saying that four children were lightly injured, and minarets and a water tower were damaged.
Obeida added that the joint Hamas-Islamic Jihad rocket fire “emphasizes a high-level of coordination between the resistance factions in the management of the confrontation with the Zionist occupation.”

Israel’s response was major because for the first time the two dominant organizations in Gaza, the radical Hamas and Iran-sponsored Jihad Islami, assumed responsibility for avenging an an Israeli attack on radical Salafist terrorists affiliated with al Qaeda. This attests to the comprehensive ties of operational collaboration forged between the diverse terrorist organizations fighting Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Israel also suspects that the pilotless helicopter sent by Iran to breach Israeli air space Saturday, Oct. 6, which flew in from the Mediterranean over the Gaza Strip, was jointly orchestrated by Tehran, Hizballah and Hamas as part of a war exercise Hamas conducted in the Gaza Strip on that day.
Abu Obeida, commander of the Hamas military arm Ezz e-din al-Qassam responded to the Israeli assault with a warning:  “The resistance” would not permit “Israeli aggression” continue, he said, and went on to laud  Hamas’ partnership with Jihad Islami and the high level of operational cooperation between the various parts of the movement.  Any more Israeli attacks, he warned, would bring forth an even more powerful and extensive Palestinian reprisal.

DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources report that Hamas draws its bravado from the military protocols its leaders secretly signed with Hizballah Sept. 13 under the Iranian aegis, which obliges signatory to come to the aid of the other when it is attacked. Jihad Islami, Iran’s Palestinian surrogate in the Gaza Strip comes under this umbrella too. The signing was first disclosed on this page on Sept. 23. Confirming this, JIhad Islami spokesmen have just threatened that the next round of attacks on Israel will come from Lebanon.

This is yet another interesting and complex article from Canada Free Press and represents a worthwhile read. Just a few highlights below:

If the script proceeds as written, the entire geopolitical world and balance of power could, and most likely will, change with this next curtain call. No one will be left untouched by the coming events.

So it is here that I pause and with a sense of urgency, suggest that we all move back a few rows and open our gaze to the bigger screen before us. My well placed source walked me there recently and showed me where to look for the hidden images in the big picture. It’s difficult at first, but once you know what you’re looking for, it suddenly it pops out and bam!.. it seems obvious! There is no way that one cannot “not see it!” At his request I cannot give him his proper and well-deserved attribution, but without his insight I might have completely missed my ah-ha moment and the instant, urgent and extreme importance of the events taking place before us right now.

It is important to understand that Russia has upwards of 100,000 troops and “advisors” on the ground in Syria and a significant contingent of their navy is parked in the Mediterranean from yard. Consider that against the historical backdrop of Vietnam. It’s too long a conversation for now, but we need to have it soon. Current events have put Russia’s back against the wall, and they intend to come out fighting. Consider what Mr. Obama has done, at the behest of his Sunni Muslim handlers, facilitating “change” in the complexion of North Africa and all of the Middle East. Now visualize what the geopolitical landscape will look like should President Obama’s handlers continue to push their Pan-Arab, United States of Muslim’s agenda. We can’t fight what we refuse to see, or understand what we accept even exists.
