Why Do Victims In Islamic State Beheading Videos Look Calm Before Being Executed?

Washington Post: Why did victims in Islamic State beheading videos look so calm? They didn’t know it was real.

For all their stage-managed professionalism, the videos of killings released by the Islamic State have often left viewers confused about the exact circumstances of what was being shown in the video. Their videos of beheadings, for instance, do not show the act itself, which initially led some to speculate that they may have been faked.

More unnervingly, there was also the calm with which many hostages spoke to the camera. Why would hostages comply with Islamic State propaganda, if they knew that it would result in their death? Some even suggested that perhaps the hostages had struck a deal with their captors for a more humane death.

WNU Editor: The above SKY interview is disturbing in everywhere.

'Jihadi John' In ISIS Videos Identified

Reuters: 'Jihadi John' from Islamic State beheading videos unmasked as Londoner

(Reuters) - Investigators believe that the "Jihadi John" masked fighter who fronted Islamic State beheading videos is a British man named Mohammed Emwazi, two U.S. government sources said on Thursday.

He was born in Kuwait and comes from a prosperous family in London, where he grew up and graduated with a computer programming degree, according to the Washington Post.

In videos released by Islamic State (IS), the black-clad militant brandishing a knife and speaking with an English accent appears to have decapitated hostages including Americans, Britons and Syrians.

WNU Editor: He comes from a very affluent family .... so poverty is not the reason why he joined the Islamic State.

Growth of terror: Since its formation as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in 2013 - it has conquered regions of Iraq, Syria and recently Libya - while building support among marginalised Muslims in Turkey, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt's Sinai Province, Afghanistan, Tunisia and Algeria

Daily Mail: The terrifying rise of ISIS: Map that shows how terror group's tentacles now reach from Algeria to Afghanistan

* ISIS began as Al-Qaeda in Iraq in 2004 and militants had just 1,000 soldiers, but it has grown to more than 30,000
* Reach of ISIS now spans Middle East and northern Africa, with only the Mediterranean sea separating from Europe
* Terrorist groups around the world now pledging allegiance to Islamic State as groups seize destabilised countries
* Experts say ISIS' control in Libya could create potential 'disaster scenario' and coalition airstrikes are fueling the militants' manipulative propaganda
* ISIS has 31,500 loyal fighters according to CIA but estimates place this far higher at around 200,000 militants

WNU Editor: And the worrying part is that they do not want to slow down.

The US has being trying to stop such private donors in the Gulf oil states sending to Islamic State (Isis) funds that help pay the salaries of fighters who may number well over 100,000.

How Many Fighters Are In The Islamic State Army?

Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, War On The Rocks: How Many Fighters Does the Islamic State Really Have?

Estimates of the number of fighters in the ranks of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are extraordinarily wide-ranging. On the low end of things, CNN’s Barbara Starr recently reported that “U.S. intelligence estimates that ISIL has a total force of somewhere between 9,000 to 18,000 fighters.” In late 2014, the CIA’s estimate of ISIL’s numbers was slightly higher, as its analysts assessed that the group had between 20,000 and 31,500 fighters between its Iraq and Syria holdings.

Previous Post: U.S. Intelligence: Thousands Of Foreign Fighters Continue To Flock To Syria And Iraq To Join The Islamic State

WNU Editor: I do not know how many fighters there are in the Islamic State .... but I do know this. In the past year Hezbollah, Free Syrian Army, the Syrian army, the Kurdish army, the Iraqi army, Iranian advisers and volunteers, a U.S. led coalition that has conducted thousands of air strikes .... all of these organizations have launched multiple attacks targeting the Islamic State .... but the Islamic state is still standing, they are still waging war, and they are consolidating their territories. A rag-tag groups of guys who decided to get together a wage Jihad .... I doubt it. There is more to this story than what we know.

WNU Editor: For an organization that is suppose to be suffering a manpower shortage .... it has certainly not stopped them from gaining new recruits and escalating their attacks in both Iraq and Syria.
